Concert Revisited
Tuesday, February 23, 2010
My daughter went to a concert last night. She's a new Mommy of a 2 year old and hasn't been to a concert in 3 years. The Used and Atreyu were playing at the Orange Peel in Asheville and she was pumped to be going. She and her buds from high school had all seen them before and were looking forward to a reunion concert of sorts.
Her Dad and I kept Phoenix while she went out. My husband usually calls her when she's out asking her when she's coming back, or telling her how bad the baby's been, etc. Last night I asked him to refrain from calling and hassling Skyler and he blew up. I wanted her to enjoy herself thoroughly.
She called me today and shared the details of the concert and the friends and exes that were there. She also told me about the "Wall of Death" (clear a wide path down the middle and 3,2,1 run like hell towards each other) that is featured at many of the concerts now so that was new to me.
Being able to empathize with your kids is a good way to parent even when your children have children of their own. She' a good Mommy and has been buried in baby for two years plus. For a single Mother getting to go out to a concert for a few hours when you're 22 isn't just going out for a few hours. It's extremely important to connect with adults and let your proverbial hair down. To me it has been such a delight to hear the pure joy in her voice and know that she had a blast. :D
