Living My Life by Emma Goldman

Wednesday, September 9, 2009

I was looking through my saved books and partial books online and thought this book of Emma Goldman was worth a post. You can read all 500+ pages online which I find amazing.

"How well I remember that day! It was a Sunday. The West Shore train, the cheapest, which was all I could afford, had brought me from Rochester, New York, reaching Weehawken at eight o'clock in the morning.

I came by ferry to New York City. I had no friends there, but I carried three addresses, one of a married aunt, one of a young medical student I had met in New Haven a year before, while working in a corset factory there, and one of The Freiheit, a German anarchist paper published by Johann Most."

WebTrail | Wednesday - Emma, Boho, Wisebot, NASA, Portls, Retro, Mynci, Dead Lay

Emma Goldman Finishing School? link

The Spirit Of Bohemia - Includes a collection of works pertaining to the other side of literary and artistic life - madness, poverty, altered states, & other experiences. - link

If it wasn't so much damn fun to surf the web, I'd first read Robot Wisdom and call it a day.

Nice that satellite tv stations carry the spacewalks live on NASA TV.

MusicPortl.com is intended to be a place where you can get an overview of information about a music artist.

Plastik Fantastic - Retro art prints. link

Mynci's (Gorky's Zygotic Mynci) Gone To Heaven - link

Is Ken Lay Really Dead? Rushkoff weighs in. Since it's out there, I suppose I have to consider it. Being cremated actually adds to this theory. link

* Television station WLOS asked man to smoke pot for story. Case referred to Buncombe County district attorney and man on probation goes directly to jail. [more »]

* shamelessly trolling for blogwhored hits
Since I was his first fan, I want to acknowledge that the always fresh and funny skippy the bush kangaroo is turning three years old in about a month and is about 80,000 hits short of a million visitors. Stop by and say hello. (the skippy mystique: He keeps his identity under wraps, but you've more than likely seen him on televsion and didn't realize it.)

* The new INKED blog from the Wooster Collective folks has launched. Tattoos and the people behind them.

{Sudie's Web Trail} - rated R today

:: Pagan Moss has a nice writeup in the Seattle Weekly this week.

:: North Korea reveals that they have nuclear weapons. Later, we'll try to get the Pope to admit he's Catholic and authenticate that a bear....well, you know.

:: WTF? Nature lovers take it literally NSFW (seen @ The Wildhunt Blog)

:: The annual Pazz & Jop is interesting to read the different music critics' favorites. (Christgau et al.) Half-assed cheesy with the pre-requisite top40, but critic cred salvaged with the inclusion of some actual talent.

:: Naked, probably NSFW and Not Naked - Galleries of breathtaking beauty by photographer, Joris Van Daele.

:: Hey, Johnny B: Will try and post my answers to your music meme soon - Johnny Bacardi. I've had pc problems since Saturday and just getting back online.

Today's Quote

The Bushiad and the Idyossey

Demonstrates that when power-mad, testosterone-poisoned religious fanatics in league with greedy multinational corporations wield unlimited military might, all humanity is vulnerable. Well done! [link] via Liz Donovan

PBS had a great documentary on Emma Goldman last night, who it was reported, was expelled by the US for promoting anarchy and revolution. On a cold December morning in 1919, just after midnight, Emma Goldman, her comrade Alexander Berkman, and more than 200 other foreign-born radicals were roused from their Ellis Island dormitory beds to begin their journey out of the United States for good.

We are having a huge thunderstorm and hail here in North Carolina last night and this morning. Hope my old roof holds up. Nasty.
