Pimp up Google Reader

Firefox: Supercharge Google Reader In 15 Ways

This first one I tried so far is the Google Reader Preview Enhanced v1.07a

Adds a "Preview button" to Google Reader that allows you to view actual article in a frame. Clicking again on that button goes back to RSS view. Does work both in List view and expanded view.

Other Google Reader hacks: you can also add posts to del.icio.us, share on Facebook, blog a feed entry to your own personal blog...the list goes on and on. Google Reader gets better and better! via

The Hippie Narrators

The Hippie Narrative:
A Literary Perspective On The Counterculture

Mount Vernon’s Scott MacFarlane examines the key works of prose of the hippie movement of the 1960s and early 1970s and how the works are reflective of the counterculture.

He mentions that "Siddhartha," written in 1922, and "Stranger in a Strange Land," published in 1961, were very instrumental because these narratives shaped the formation of a hippie counterculture and were written before the sixties movement.

And he covers Kesey, Brautigan and Wolfe. Nationally influential. link


That leads me to the Foxfire Books, which is one of my favorite books of all time.

Regionally influential in the South were the Foxfire Books. Especially to those of us living on communes and/or outdoors.

Firefox has branched off to teaching and workshops now, but originally it was the communer's bible here in the South, where you could find sections on hog dressing, log cabin building, basket weaving, preserving foods, making butter, planting by the signs, snake lore, hunting tales, faith healing, and moonshining, which we left to the pros. We made blackberry wine.

The idea that this is just a screw-up, or a delay, or a stall is wrong. This is the plan. You're seeing it in effect. They don't ever want those people back. You still have 73,000 POWs - prisoners of "W."

What makes Palast a good investigative reporter is that he does his homework and not only tells us the real story sans agenda, but always finds a way to get his voice heard. Sure is a tenacious little fucker.

* TEST POST - With my post on Stonehenge below, I'm trying out the new tool for Firefox called Performancing which I found on Bloglines popular links.  It's a full featured blog editor that sits right within Firefox. Just hit F8,  right-click, or click the little pencil icon at the bottom right to bring up the blog editor and easily post to your Wordpress, MovableType or Blogger blogs.

Currently my feed won't publish, but this extension has possibilities.

The worldwide Freecycle Network is made up of many individual groups across the globe. It's an international grassroots movement of people who are giving (& getting) stuff for free in their own towns. Since I first posted about it, many other communities have opened up their own Freecycle groups. Put in your zipcode and check it out.. Best thing I've freecycled or bartered lately? The car I'm driving was bartered for my husband building someone a deck.

Locally, Hendersonville and Ashevilleboth have busy groups.

**Edited To Add: This virus causes beaucoup pop-ups. I log online with AOL, minimize it, then open Firefox to surf. Every few minutes, another Firefox window, or an IE window, or an ad opens up. If I go away and come back, I've got about 20 open windows and more coming. You can keep deleting them, but who wants to do that? You can find the offending file (just had another Firefox window pop up) and delete it, but the beauty (not) of this virus is that it replicates each time you power on. Smart little fucker, innit? I went into Safe Mode and deleted the file, as recommended on a site I saw, but that didn't work either.

Onward through the fog to Plan B. Anybody got a Plan B? Fuck.
