"Fantasma" by Kris Kuksi

One of the selected works in the "Imminent Utopia" exhibit at Joshua Liner Gallery in New York, NY (Nov.-Dec.)

"I get inspired by the industrial world, all the rigidity of machinery, the network of pipes, wires, refineries, etc. Then I join that with an opposite of flowing graceful, harmonious, and pleasing design of the Baroque and Rococo. And of course I add a bit weirdness and the macabre." --Kris Kuksi.

Live Painting in Brazil - Tribe 7

For the seventh year, Brazilian brothers, Raphael and Fario Dahan, sponsored Tribe Festival, a series of the most successful day-long music and art events in their country. On December 15th, 2007, top international performers converged for Tribe 7. Over 25,000 people attended the recent concert held near Sao Paulo.

For the first time ever, Allyson and Alex painted together on one giant mural for the duration of the event. We painted for nearly 20 hours continuously, completing two sides of a four sided mural, 32 feet long and 8 feet high. The mural is on canvas stretched around a cube, allowing views from every vantage point. The last two panels will be completed in July when A & A return

Alex's art is the visual feature of this year's Tribe festivals. The stage for the concert was patterned after the frame around the painting "Nature of Mind" and enlarged symbols from the Chapel of Sacred Mirrors, CoSM appear throughout the event grounds. A studio of artists translated the details of the "Nature of Mind" frame into huge sculptures. A dozen 20 foot high four faced angels held up the corners of the tent under which thousands of people danced, surrounded by enlarged CoSM inspired symbols from many world religions.

Unreal... exactly! Incredible sculptures of creepy, grotesque, mottled skin and uncannily gigantic proportional figures are the work of Ron Mueck, an Australian hyper-realist sculptor working in the UK.

Related:
Earlier EBC post features more Ron Muek gallery sculptures. His giant baby sculptures always amuse me and never fail to make me smile.

GIANT BABY
Ron Mueck and his assistant Charlie Clarke work with Brooklyn Museum staff to install the exhibition Ron Mueck on view at the Brooklyn Museum, November 3, 2006?February 4, 2007.

At the Brooklyn Museum the Australian artist Ron Mueck has delivered "A Girl," the biggest human infant ever hatched. More than 16 feet long (weight unrecorded) and not yet unhooked from her hawser-like umbilical cord, she still has traces of birth blood on her wrinkled body.

You may have sensed by now that she is not a real baby. What she is is an extraordinarily lifelike sculpture made with exquisite craftsmanship by the 48-year-old Mr. Mueck, who is known for his ultrarealistic re-creations of the human figure in silicone and fiberglass.

What an amazing sculpture! And you can see more at Flickr.com

Inside the mind of Joe Seigenthaler. Whenever I see his work, I'm interested in what goes on in the mind of the artist as much as the actual art work.

Born in Nashville, Tennessee in 1959, Joseph Seigenthaler currently resides in Chicago, Illinois, where he has exhibited his figurative sculpture for the past 15 years. He is married to the painter Anne Gilbert from Paris, France and they have three beautiful daughters, ages 11, 9, and 6 years old.

The artist is represented by Carl Hammer Gallery, Chicago.

The Visionary Art Of Gil Bruvel. Bruvel is one of those artists in a class by himself. If you register at the site, he'll send you the url for some exquisite wallpaper. Sure makes my pitiful pumpkin patch wallpaper pale in comparison.

Don't miss the sculpture. It's so detailed and bold. And different. I see why he's called a visionary artist.

Shop his online store for limited edition prints, posters, cards, books and more.

"Coalition forces generally tried to avoid killing Iraqis who weren’t taking part in combat. But the deaths of hundreds of civilians still could have been prevented by abandoning two misguided military tactics." Human Rights Watch said in a comprehensive new report released today.

Rise and shine; it's a beautiful day. My older, uh, younger sister is having a birthday today. I can't pull that off anymore. By now, everyone knows I'm really older.

Happy Birthday, Robin!

Dept Of Debauchery: Ex TYCO CEO Threw $2.1 Million Birthday Party For His Wife

A memo detailing plans for a $2.1 million 40th birthday party Mr. Kozlowski staged for his wife, Karen, calls for an extravagant, Roman Empire-theme event on the Italian island of Sardinia.

A Tyco pre-party memo described the event: "The guests come into the pool area, the band is playing, they are dressed in elegant chic. Big ice sculpture of David, lots of shellfish and caviar at his feet. A waiter is pouring Stoli vodka into [the statue's] back so it comes out his penis into a crystal glass. Waiters are passing cocktails in chalices. They are dressed in linen togas with fig wreath on head. A full bar with fabulous linens." Tyco shareholders picked up half the $2.1 million birthday bash tab. Talk about your wretched excess. The problem is that he billed the company for 1/2 of the expenses. Did we get to see him do the "CEO Shuffle" [as I call it or 'perp-walk' as it's also known]?
