Dave LaChapelle

You may have read posts about the photographer, Dave LaChapelle, here. But I haven't been able to find anything new about him until recently on MySpace, where he keeps a journal. He's living on a farm in Hawaii and he's got The Men, War & Peace show Dec 2 in Berlin that's associated with the Helmut Newton group, which is as good as it gets so he's still at the top of his game.

Reading in his MySpace journal I see a courageous admission about him spending some time in a psyche ward and subsequently discovering he was bi-polar. For a popular photographer it could kill a career, but he doesn't care about that at all. He talks about a crushing breakup, high school, his family, his friends and more. It's been a soul searching couple of years for him and he appears to be content with the direction his life is going in.

His Vogue Homme pictures made me scream with fits of laughter. He says he got in trouble for them. I want to know if they're staged or did he just run into a Saturday night bingo game at Aunt Ruth's? What an oustanding talent. His journal is a fun read I wish for him continued success and peace.

:: I've not posted about LaChapelle in awhile, but he's definitely due. Here are some great photos from Sundance screening of Rize, by celebrity photographer-filmmaker David Lachapelle. His first film chronicles a dance movement in South-Central Los Angeles known as "krumping," a high-energy dance where the performers dress as clowns.

DARK PHOTOGRAPHY

(LEFT) NSFW -not safe for work- (May be offensive to some.) Disturbing, yet titillating and erotic. Beautiful photos from John Santerineross, the leading dark art photographer of our time; although they could be viewed as misogynistic or controversial, can be found in his new book, Dream, available Oct 1. I met him years ago in NY and he's so gifted. He and David LaChapelle are two of the best photogs out there, in my opinion. Dave is whimsy/sexy, John is dark/erotic.



**Personally, for non-manipulated photos, I enjoy looking at the world thru my friends' eyes. Kane's view of Hawaii, Marie's of the Blue Ridge Mtns, and Lynn's days in Halifax. Photographs, like other art forms, are very revealing.

Does anyone use the newsfeeds? News aggregators? I've been using Bloglines. Which one do you use?



Ever since my tower started making noises, I've been trying to make sure I've got the files I've saved over the 5 years backed up someplace. I suppose I could just buy a blank zip file and save them in that, but I like the fact that I can keep my favorites in Yahoo's bookmarks. I had exported my IE favorites long ago and this morning I exported my Mozilla Firefox favorites into My Yahoo's bookmark. (TO DO: Go to Bookmarks, File, Export, to save a file fist, then upload to Yahoo.)
