VALENTINE'S DAY CANDY FOR THE REST OF US

Unlike other candy hearts, ours are stamped with bitter musings and mockeries perfectly suited to the dejected spirits of those who will spend the holiday alone, or wishing they were.

"Dumped" sayings include:

I GOT SOBER | HE FIT U FAT | U LEFT SEATUP | USED U 4 FUN
JUST A FRIEND | BACK 2 KENNEL | DORKA PHOBIC | U HAVE A BLOG
RUSSIAN BRIDE | CELEB8 THX2U | DOG IS CUTER | TRADIN YOU IN
FORGET WE MET | KISS A FROG | SHE IS 22! | HE HAS A JOB

Anti-Valentines Day

If you're not a big Valentine's Day fan, maybe Dirty Rotten Flowers can help you celebrate Anti-Valentine's Day.

This Morticia arrangement is one option. I think one dozen decapitated roses ought to do it. Valentine's Day's alright but these decapitated roses just may work in some cases, especially since Mick and Keith had a lot of success with a song they wrote about Dead Flowers.

When you don't care enough to send anything resembling the very best you might want to send dead fish. WTF? Visit Payback.com and see revenge at its best.

Why did I never think of something clever to do when I experienced a painful breakup? Slut that I am was, I probably thought sleeping with their best friend was enuf.

Happy Valentine's Day?

Irony, party of one?
I'm all for anything that helps us express more love in the universe but the commercialism of Valentine's Day that was conceived by Hallmark and other card companies are now making Anti-Valentine cards for those sick of the commercialism of Valentine's Day in the first place-- why not just express our love every single day of the year? Is it because we all need a little help to show our love?

So anyway, what'd you get me?
When you sent Valentine cards in school, it gave you more courage to show that cute boy or cute girl how you felt about them and it may have spawned a relationship that otherwise wouldn't have grown. Fast forward to adulthood. Hallmark sees an opening in the card market and shoots the gap. But it got out of control.

Quote For The Day
As human beings, we share what is real. Joy, sorrow, care, courage, and tenderness are real. Tears are real, and so is laughter. These are the currency of the heart. They are meant to be exchanged. ~Anonymous

LD Beghtol interviews Diamanda Galas

Sunday, February 4, 2007

I enjoy LD Beghtol's column at the Village Voice and his podcast which is a weekly ramble through the obscurer and experimental corners of music.

LD's High Bias' latest column and podcast Pre-VD Love Bomb, is about Diamanda Galás Valentine's Day Massacre on February 14 @ The Knitting Factory.

WEBTRAIL - Top 100, PETA, Ivins, Boomer, Mancuso, Garden of Delights, James Frey

Garden Of Delights is a good vintage vinyl site. One of 7 or 8 good ones I've found lately. Freaky Lady posts mostly rare 60s music. Not as rare in the weird sense as Cake & Polka Parade, which has it's own fun, but informative niche.

‘Love Saves The Day’, an essential new book, which charts the development of New York (and subsequently worldwide) club culture, takes it’s name from a party held on Valentines Day 1970 at the home of David Mancuso, a loft space at 647 Broadway & Bleeker, in NoHo, NYC. (via Autopoiesis & Cognition Conversations)

Please Sign This Petition if you agree that James Frey, Author of "A Million Little Pieces", Random House & Nan Telese, the Publisher of these lies should offer a refund of his book considering the controversy surrounding it.

Were you born between 1946 and 1964? Boomer Baby is asking you to send in your childhood toy memories. I enjoyed the "Easy Bake Oven" because YUM!, those little cakes that you baked by a lightbulb were seriously good eating. I also liked paper dolls. Betsy McCall came in a magazine each month with different outfits to cut out and put on. Try getting a small child today to get interested in paper dolls. Not going to happen. (via mousemusings)

Molly Ivins, 61, is again battling breast cancer. [More »] (via labkat)

Happy Valentine's Day!
Sending much love to my son and daughter today and always.

Still driving each other insane after all these years. Freshly brewed coffee, truffles, cards and flowers were waiting for me on my desk this morning. And here I thought we weren't even speaking to each other. I made him a carrot cake for his Valentine's treat. But he just gets a nibble. Of cake. [picture: capnwacky via: presurfer ]

I'd like to concur with GoFish and also celebrate the newly married folks in San Francisco. What a joyous time for you all.

Good Morning.... and

Happy Valentine's Day!

I'm not yet 100% in the Blog Zone yet and I'm sick of whining about being sick. [my friend had this flu for 8 days]. But I haven't been able to surf over to all my favorite blogs like I want to yet; but soon.

To My Friends On Valentine's Day
When you are sad,.............
I will get you drunk and help you plot revenge against the scum sucking bastard who made you sad.
When you are blue,..........
I'll try to dislodge whatever's choking you.
When you smile,............
I'll know you finally got laid.
When you are scared,.........
I will rag you about it every chance I get.
When you are worried,.........
I will tell you horrible stories about how much worse it could be and to
quit whining.
When you are confused,........
I will use little words to explain it to your dumb ass.
When you are sick.........
Stay away from me until your well again, I don't want whatever you have.
When you fall......
I will point and laugh at your clumsy ass.
This is my oath...............
I pledge till the end. Why you may ask?........
Because you're my friend.

Good morning...

Thanks for the get well wishes. Feeling somewhat better today.

With my youngest child now a teenager, I had her on my mind early this morning....

For a Mother, time is abstract. More like a force of nature. There is only one thing I can compare it to. On the sands of beautiful Miami Beach when I was small, I took my father's hand as we walked barefoot onto the ocean's foamy edge. The waves slapped the shore in an angry break and the undertow was furious and fast; leaving broken shells and seaweed in it's wake. As another huge wave rushed up, I dug in my heels and braced for the wall of water. Breaking lose from my dad, I was pulled by some unseen force down the shore, and left face down in sand gasping for air. Choking as salty water filled my eyes and mouth, I tried to pull myself up without another wave overtaking me. I was surprised to now see our umbrella and blankets so far down the shore.

Such is time for a Mother. You dig in your heels, and brace yourself, for space and time are too soon far down the shore.

Bitter, Party of One?
Only Ann Cunt Coulter could find fault with the news media's coverage of the Space Shuttle Columbia tragedy. I wonder what Annie's getting for Valentine's Day. I'd like to suggest a new heart to replace the dried-up raisin-sized organ that currently resides within that small chest of hers.

Eight war protesters were arrested at Senator John Edwards' Office in Raleigh, NC, yesterday after they refused to leave. The protesters — including a professor at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill — were marched out of the office building in handcuffs while supporters applauded and shouted anti-war slogans. Edwards was not in his office yesterday. His spokesman had no immediate comment. [site requires registration]

Remembering...
Come down off your throne
And leave your body alone
Somebody must change
You are the reason
I've been waiting so long
Somebody holds the key
Well I'm near the end and I just ain't got the time
Well I'm wasted and I can't find my way home

Good Morning! Feb 2 - Groundhog Day

Been Thinking

I just heard a commercial on television about a Mother's fears of holding her new born baby. And my mind traveled back to the evening my first child was born. I was 21. As the nurse handed me my son for the first time, I recall that I'd never held a baby before. Would I hurt him? What if he started crying and I was unable to comfort him? I finally reached out for him with all the courage I could muster, put him at my breast, and natural instinct took over that very moment. It's a beautiful thing. I guess I am to take something away from this thought. It's just slow in coming.

Introducing "BitterSweets(tm)". The Valentine's Candy for the Rest of Us.

Anti-War Slogans (in an email from my friend, Carol in Marietta, GA)

Some messages that appeared on buttons and signs at Saturday's demonstration in Washington, D.C.:

- These colors don't run the world.

- One nation under surveillance.

- How did our oil get under their sand?

- Who would Jesus bomb?

- Start Drafting SUV Drivers Now.

- Don't blame me, I voted with the majority.

- Buck Fush!

- (On a five year old) More Candy Less War.

- Read between the Pipelines

- How many Lives per Gallon?

- Anything War can do, Peace can do better.

- Oh Say can You Cease?

- Star Spangled Bummer

- Don't Arm a Son of a Bush

- Don't do it George, Dad will still love you.
