If this ıs allowed to happen, unlike their last attempt at hijackıng democracy, any idea of Real Canadian Democracy will be set back half a century. This cannot be allowed to happen.

Before Facebook and Twitter and the others, blogs were the main way of connecting with folks around the world online. But now it's so much easier for me to use social media.
Easy Bake Coven will probably always be online. It was my first born (2001) and it's still a part of me. It began with my daughter at 14 years old and my sister still living and battling cancer. It was fueled by making new friends online as we felt our way together through the darkness of the newborn Blogosphere.
It was soon after September 11, 2001, and we were fragile. The whole world was. We yearned for safety and comfort. We learned enough to hunt and peck our way through HTML and found others who were hurting but hopeful together.
We collectively comforted one another through rumors of war and realities of war. No matter the politics. No matter the religion. We blogged. And blogged.
We healed and laughed and loved and documented every (sometimes nauseating) detail. That was the inception of Easy Bake Coven and I could no easier throw it away than cut off my arm but I digress.

As democracy protests spread across the Middle East, we as journalists struggle to convey the sights and sounds, the religion and politics. But there’s one central element that we can’t even begin to capture: the raw courage of men and women — some of them just teenagers — who risk torture, beatings and even death because they want freedoms that we take for granted.
Here in Bahrain on Saturday, I felt almost physically ill as I watched a column of pro-democracy marchers approach the Pearl Roundabout, the spiritual center of their movement. One day earlier, troops had opened fire on marchers there, with live ammunition and without any warning. So I flinched and braced myself to watch them die.
Yet, astonishingly, they didn’t. The royal family called off the use of lethal force, perhaps because of American pressure. The police fired tear gas and rubber bullets, but the protesters marched on anyway, and the police fled.
The protesters fell on the ground of the roundabout and kissed the soil. They embraced each other. They screamed. They danced. Some wept.
"We are calling it ‘Martyrs’ Roundabout’ now," Layla, a 19-year-old university student, told me in that moment of stunned excitement. "One way or another, freedom has to come," she said. "It’s not something given by anybody. It’s a right of the people.”
Courage is indeed the story. Thank you, Nick for always being the first to report the under reported stories until they can no longer be ignored.
With some dubbing the revolution in Tunisia, which sparked large-scale uprisings against geriatric regimes across the middle east, "the first wikileaks revolution," or "the first blogger revolution," it has become apparent to the old corrupt elite that they must fight a war on information itself, for their own self preservation.
In Egypt, the former head of the air force, and 30 year dictator: Hosni Mubarak, has shut down virtually all forms of communication, including the internet, telephone, and all television stations not run by the government. Cairo has been on complete power blackout. Most transportation, minus official transport, appears to have been shut down nationwide. Mohammad El Bareidi, the Egyptian former Director of the United Nations Atomic Energy Commission, and outspoken advocate of change and progress in Egypt, has been placed under house arrest. Meanwhile the geriatric Mubarak has fired his entire cabinet, sardonically blaming Egypt's problems on them, rather than on himself.
For Egypt in my opinion this is it: The aging relic Mubarak has declared war on on his own country and especially on modern communications. He needs to be ousted now.

Miral, directed by Julian Schnabel, is based on journalist Rula Jebreal’s autobiographical novel about growing up as a Palestinian in Israel. It tells the first-hand tale of three women whose lives unfold during the first intifada, the Palestinian uprising against the Israeli occupation that began in 1987. Highlighting the remarkable work of a Palestinian woman named Hind Husseini – a woman who sacrifices everything to establish a school for refugee Palestinian girls in East Jerusalem and takes Miral in – the book and film show that hope still exists within a world of conflict. Bringing numerous elements of her own life into the story – Jebreal and her younger sister were taken in by Husseini after their own mother committed suicide.
"the real problem is the movie is pro-Palestinian and anti-Israel and it is going to be very difficult to get American audiences excited to see it," said one source.
The "Bible Belt" knows no boundaries. It's a global thing. And as far as the US goes, there is bigotry in the Midwest, the West, the South, and the North.
I guess the South, sometimes called the Bible Belt, got the reputation during the Civil Rights movement when racial discrimination led to non-violent protests, and civil disobedience. It went back to Brown v. Board of Education in 1954, Rosa Parks, desegregating Little Rock (AR),
Greensboro (NC) Sit-In, and more. Had these events happened anyplace else I suspect we would have had the same friction and resistance from while folks, don't you think?
It was in 1960 that the black men took a stand in Greensboro, NC, at a lunch counter in Woolworth's. I was just eight years old and I still remember watching it on television to this day. I was mad at the unfairness of it all and curious to see the opinions of my family and friends.
Most all my family lived in Georgia and they thought segregation was a fine idea. Up until then my family had always been united and supportive on every front. I lived in a place where there were so few black people that segregation seldom came up.
When my uncles spoke their opinions loud and clear at a family gathering my father, the oldest child and respected family patriarch, told them just how wrong they were. It was the first time I felt the family fracturing. It was the first time I realized that there was an "us" and a "them" and I was happy to be on the side of standing up for civil rights and fighting for what was only fair. I may have been one of "them" but that was all right with me.
Square peg in a round hole. That's always been me. Growing up no one else was like me. The older I got I searched them out. I found a few in high school and found tons when I got to college.
I can slide back and forth and mingle with the aliens as one of them but am always glad to get back to my utopian home land where other progressives thrive. People that think like me and act like me and care about the least of us like me.
It can be a lonely place to live at times but when you find someone else who is also like you you will also call it utopia, too.
Thank you for standing up with Daw Suu and standing by the people of #Burma who are unable to stand up and speak out for themselves! Please continue to spread the word and encourage others to do the same to ensure that military junta in #Burma releases her from illegitimate detention on November 13th, where she has spent last 15 years under house arrest…on Wednesday.

Bob Dylan: The Brazil Series
Bob Dylan, who has been painting since the 1960s, will have new paintings and drawings on display at The National Gallery of Denmark September 4th through January 30th. “It was an honor to be asked and a thrilling challenge,” Dylan said in a statement about the collection, called Brazil Series, which he created exclusively for the museum. “I chose Brazil as a subject because I have been there many times and I like the atmosphere.”
Inspired by early 20th century American realism and painters like Matisse, Dylan depicts politicians, gamblers, wine growers, and other denizens of Brazil.
