Latest Sarah Palin Speech Opens Sixth Seal

Saturday, February 27, 2010

Speaking unto an audience of anti-immigration advocates, global-warming deniers, and members of the Tea Party Nation, former Alaska governor and vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin gave forth utterances Monday that reportedly opened the sixth seal of the Book of the Apocalypse.

"Wow, it's good to be here, just shootin' the breeze with a bunch of real, hardworking Americans who love their freedom," said Palin, her words echoing across the Idaho Falls Civic Auditorium as mighty tremors caused great unrest beneath the land and the sea. "So are the little guys like you and me gonna fight these Washington insiders with their big government agenda? You betcha we are!"

And lo, there was then a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair; and the moon became as blood; and "gosh" was spoken repeatedly; and the stars of heaven fell upon the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken by a mighty wind.

Those Palin supporters' thunderous applause drowned out the sound of the foretold cataclysm. And those not swallowed up by sudden fissures in the earth's crust remained to chant anti-Democratic slogans. These fuckers are the majority in the US.

Michal Negrin

Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Michal Negrin designs jewelry and clothing that reflect romance, femininity, and love. Her website (and her stores and designs) looks like a delightful fairy tale.

I just want to meet her and talk with her and find out what makes her tick. She's seems like a really sweet lady. She's an original and her items aren't for everyone, to be sure, but I just can't stop looking at her things.

With celebrity and royal custies she's a global force of capitalism and happily-ever-after. At first blush it looks like someone swallowed rainbows and shit roses and Kewpie dolls but further observation reveals damn fine design elements so I have to give it to her for finding a niche market and for squeezing that fucker for all it's worth.

Tiger was apologizing, straight up and to the bone, to capitalism itself

ABC's George Stephanopoulos called Tiger's little speech "one of the most remarkable public apologies ever by a public figure." Clearly, Stephanopolous might more of a mental fluffball than anyone originally thought.

Dick Cheney slithering forth and apologizing for being a cancerous, warmongering monster whose brutal profiteering and shriveled soul cost thousands of young American lives? The GOP stepping out and admitting they killed health care reform because they really wanted to ding the scary black president, and don't really give a flying crap about your sick and uninsured children? Now those would be remarkable public apologies. A comatose golfer saying he's sorry for nailing some hookers whilst his family rolls around in $500 million worth of Escalades, diamond-crusted teaspoons and Swiss ski chalets? Not a remarkable apology. Clear?

OneDreamRush

Tuesday, February 23, 2010

Onedreamrush, a series of 42 films by 42 directors lasting 42 seconds and inspired by dreams. Commissioned by vodka brand 42 Below, the program plays like an art house version of BMW Films with a list of participating directors that runs the gamut from avant-garde to art house to advertising.

(42 comes from the 42nd parallel where New Zealand is located. The spring water from the ground is said to be very pure and tasty and is used in the making of their vodka.)

Among them are Kenneth Anger, Jonas Mekas, David Lynch, Larry Clark, Harmony Korine, Lou Ye, Gaspar Noe, Asia Argento, Tadanobu Asano, James Franco, Leos Carax, Mike Figgis, Abel Ferrara, Cat Power, Ryan McGinley, Taika Watiti, Floria Sigismondi and Universal Everything's Matt Pyke.

Onedreamrush debuted in May at the Cannes Film Festival and in China at the National Film Museum in Beijing and is viewable online via the microsite 42x42.com.

Each director was given a budget of $10,000 to produce a film, the option to shoot in China through production partner the Beijing Film Studio and complete creative freedom to interpret the "how we dream" brief. Each director would also retain the rights to their film.

For his film Astarte, Michele Civetta cut together footage from the 1920s of a black magic mass with images of a modern ritualistic occult ceremony as "a traditional invocation of a goddess in terms of a magical dream."

For S/HE, Asia Argento created an abstract micro-documentary about a group of Brazilian transsexuals that hang out at the grocery store down the street from her house in suburban Rome.

Concert Revisited

My daughter went to a concert last night. She's a new Mommy of a 2 year old and hasn't been to a concert in 3 years. The Used and Atreyu were playing at the Orange Peel in Asheville and she was pumped to be going. She and her buds from high school had all seen them before and were looking forward to a reunion concert of sorts.

Her Dad and I kept Phoenix while she went out. My husband usually calls her when she's out asking her when she's coming back, or telling her how bad the baby's been, etc. Last night I asked him to refrain from calling and hassling Skyler and he blew up. I wanted her to enjoy herself thoroughly.

She called me today and shared the details of the concert and the friends and exes that were there. She also told me about the "Wall of Death" (clear a wide path down the middle and 3,2,1 run like hell towards each other) that is featured at many of the concerts now so that was new to me.

Being able to empathize with your kids is a good way to parent even when your children have children of their own. She' a good Mommy and has been buried in baby for two years plus. For a single Mother getting to go out to a concert for a few hours when you're 22 isn't just going out for a few hours. It's extremely important to connect with adults and let your proverbial hair down. To me it has been such a delight to hear the pure joy in her voice and know that she had a blast. :D

Howard Lotsof Dies at 66; Saw Drug Cure in a Plant

Monday, February 22, 2010

Howard Lotsof was 19, addicted to heroin and searching for a new high in 1962 when he swallowed a bitter-tasting white powder taken from an exotic West African shrub.

"The next thing I knew," he told The New York Times in 1994, "I was straight." Read More »

He was many things but he was also a tireless worker for patients rights and addicts in recovery. Howard died of liver cancer, the same thing that killed my sister, Robin. We knew he'd been terminally sick for some time. I probably spoke online with Howard a dozen or so times. We both belonged to the same anonymous drug treatment group. He was the "King" of the recovery community. He was beyond knowledgeable and so giving of his research and time and his generous spirit. He will be missed by junkies, New York society and everyone in between who crossed his path. "Go peacefully, kind sir. Until we meet again."

Happy Valentine's Day

Love Quotes For The Today

As human beings, we share what is real. Joy, sorrow, care, courage, and tenderness are real. Tears are real, and so is laughter. These are the currency of the heart. They are meant to be exchanged. ~Anonymous

When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace. ~Jimi Hendrix (1942-1970)

The pure love of one person can offset the hatred of thousands. ~Mahatma Gandhi

Life is short and we do not have much time to gladden the hearts of those who travel the way with us, so be swift to love and make haste to be kind. ~Unknown

The Magic Drink That Boosts Energy

Friday, February 12, 2010

It quenches your thirst, it's practically free, and it gives you energy to boot. What's this magical energy drink? It's water.

That's right. A new study shows that slight dehydration can send your energy into a nosedive. And it puts people in a foul mood, too. So turn on the tap.

Thirsty, Tired, and Grumpy
When water was withheld from a group of college students who were working out, they reported not just greater feelings of thirst but also more fatigue, anger, depression, and confusion than the group of well-hydrated exercisers. And the researchers suspect that dehydration would probably cause these same side effects in folks who aren't exercising but are water deprived -- although more study is needed to say for sure. Bottom line: Check your fluid intake if you need a pick-me-up.

I have been immersed in an all out exercise/fitness blitz and have lost 13 lbs and my endurance and strength grows daily. It's empowering and liberating, baby!

Break Up With Your Bank

Thursday, February 11, 2010

That big bank you're in a relationship with is abusive. It's time to break up.

This Thursday afternoon, PA and ANWF are announcing the "Break Up with Your Bank" campaign that we hope you'll love. In 3 days it'll be Valentine's Day -- the perfect time to end your abusive relationship with the big banks. Move your money to a local bank, cut up that big bank credit card and join us for flyering at 400 events around the country. We're making the break-up easy on you:

Break Up With Your Bank at BankBreak.org:

We're anxious to hear how much money you can move and see your pictures too.

If you're still banking with one of the Big 4 Banks -- Bank of America, Chase, Citi, Wells Fargo -- you should take this moment, the season of love, to think seriously about ending that relationship and banking with a local bank or credit union instead. Their fees are fairer, their interest rates are lower, and, instead of gambling your money away, they lend to your community and help to create jobs.
