Happy Birthday to Rickie Lee Jones, who crossed over to the other side with legions of great women (ahem) and turned 50 on Friday, Oct 29. She has a topical song, "Ugly Man", on her most recent album about a politician who's just like his father.

(I just read this in Asheville's Mountain Xpress)

On Sunday afternoon, Oct 24, a young man wearing glasses and a tie and driving a light colored car stole the Kerry yard sign from our yard on "Springwood Drive". To this young man we say:
We saw you.
We've replaced the sign.
You obviously have the same disrespect for freedom of speech as your candidate.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
If I haven't stopped by your site in some time, please don't take it personally. I've not visited anyone in so long and I hope to see everyone real soon. Here's a few folks I've visited this week.
*Tish always conveys her feelings so smartly. So gifted.
*Bryn has a nice new cosmic site design.
*I visited Oscar to see what he's been playing lately on the guitar and banjo.
*Susan from Oz is working in a no-kill animal shelter. That's an admirable volunteer job to do.
* Kane gives us a list of things to bring to the polls in preparation for a long wait
* Maggie posts about Eminem's new video, Mosh.
*Cyndy's on top of the missing material in Iraq and has all the latest and pertinent quotes there to read.
*Shirl is all set for NaNoWriMo beginning Monday. She's always so busy. She must be one hell of a time manager.
OK. Back to my blogroll.....!
Quintessence Through the Wormhole - The Lunar Eclipse Grand Quintile of Oct 28, 2004. On the night of Wednesday October 27, 2004, the Moon will pass through Earth's shadow, an event known as a total Lunar eclipse. The eclipse will begin at 9:14pm Eastern Daylight Time (the equivalent of 1:14am, October 28, Universal Time), when a dark shadow will appear at the edge of Lunar disk. By 10:23pm EDT (2:23am UT) the entire Lunar surface will be obscured. 22 minutes later a slight glow will appear at the Moon's opposite edge, as it begins to emerge from "behind" the Earth, and at 12:54am EDT (4:54am UT) it will be all over. The Moon will shine as brightly as ever.
So step outside this Wednesday night, watch the darkening face of the Moon, and ponder the majestic movements of the heavenly bodies that bring us this sublime display. more »
Got Them pResident Dubya Blues Again
"Nukular." "Internets." "Wanna buy some wood?"
When Dubya was elected Governor of Texas, I was flabbergasted. I couldn't believe that sane people would vote for this Bush family idiot. I was later shocked when he was appointed pResident. Now fast forward 4 years later and after witnessing the Bozo clusterfuck that is Dubya & Company, we're on the cusp of four more disastrous years.
In my mind's eye, I see him sitting in the Oval Office reading Karl Rove's "Prezidentin' For Dummies". What I hope to see is him waving goodbye as the moving vans pull away with his shit onboard. I almost don't care who moves in after him.
But it may not happen that way. Can we really take this administration for four more years? I sure hope like hell we'll never have to find out.
Tideland, the movie, has begun filming and is directed by Terry Gilliam. (Monty Python member, and he directed 12 Monkeys, and Fisher King, --2 of my all time favorites). It's taken from the macabre gothic novel by Mitch Cullin about an abandoned young girl’s life and fantasies in rural Texas. Currently filming in Regina, Saskatchewan, it teams Gilliam again with Jeff Bridges and is scheduled for a 2006 release. On my "Must See" list along with Johnny Depp's The Diving Bell & The Butterfly, scheduled for 2005.
I have known him for thirty years as a good man with a brave heart -- which is more than even the president's friends will tell you about George W. George W Bush looks like he just dropped his fucking ice cream cone. That sad, slack-jawed look just causes me all kinds of grief. It appears every time someone disagrees with him. He's evidently someone who's never been disagreed with.
Put your clothes on, Emperor. We all know the score.
Bush claims he never said he didn't think much about Osama bin Laden. Sorry, Mr. President, in a press conference on March 13, 2002, you said (and I quote):
"I don't know where he [bin Laden] is.You know, I just don't spend that much time on him... I truly am not that concerned about him."
Bush tried to say Kerry's claim "is one of those exaggerations." That was his attack on Gore, not Kerry. Has he hit the wrong button on his playback machine?
This performance should forever dispel the myth that someone is feeding Mr. Bush lines through a secret earpiece. Believe me, if someone was feeding Bush lines, he wouldn't sound so goofy. Link
Bless His Heart
Wednesday, October 6, 2004
{Bless His Heart}
In the South, we have this phrase that has several different meanings. It doesn't take others long to catch on.
I first heard it from my Father. He was referring to a divorcee down the street who had taken to too many cocktails for breakfast. And for lunch and dinner. "Bless her heart. After Curtis left her, she's not been able to cope." Fine. It's a term of endearment.
I later discovered Bless her heart took on different connotations. It was mean-spirited when said about the ugly girl who tryed out for homecoming queen. "Bless her heart. She thinks she's got a chance." Are you really being warm and sincere? Or is it more like you want to give a shit, but don't have it in you to do so?
It can be endearing as in, "Bless his heart, he's trying so hard to ride that bicycle".
It can dress up the snarkiest remark, express sincerest regrets, or upmost respect. But it can also be confusing to outsiders until you learn to recognize it's use as both compliment and criticism.
Like this degree of audacity when Bless his heart can be interchangeable with things like, Poor Bastard, or What An Asshole. As in "Bless his heart, (Poor Bastard,) Dick Cheney actually thinks we believe all those lies he's been telling us."
Current Moon Phase : Waning Moon
From three-and-a-half to ten-and-a-half days after the full moon. From the Full Moon to the New is a time for study, meditation, and magic designed to banish harmful energies and habits, for ridding oneself of addictions, illness or negativity.
Oct 13 New Moon 10:48 pm
Oct 22 Sun enters Scorpio 9:49 pm
Oct 27 Full Moon 11:07 pm
Oct 31 Samhain
Star IQ - Tuesday, October 5
The Moon enters Cancer at 2:54 am EDT, turning our attention toward our innermost feelings. That which isn't expressed now becomes important, for the Moon is powerful in the self-protected sign of hard-shelled Cancer. But things are not as they seem, for the Sun aligns with Mercury as they both form a harmonious trine with Neptune, the planet of illusions. This can also create confusion in communication as we become susceptible to escaping our problems rather than dealing with them. We can, however, move beyond the limits of rational thought and into the realms of spirituality.
